~ Most commercial sunscreens contain nano zinc oxide, which means that the particles are small enough so that it can go deeply into the layers of your skin which is not healthy.
It is better to use a non-nano zinc oxide so that the particles are large enough to stay on the surface of the skin and are able to protect both the top layer and deeper layers of the skin from sun damage.

Some other ingredients in commercial sunscreens are non-biodegradable chemicals that are carcinogenic and hormone disruptors.
Chemical sunscreens carry their ingredients deep down into the body and once it’s down Into those skin layers those harmful ingredients can react with UV light causing damage.

No Photosensitive Oils Used***
While some essential oils are fine to use outside in the sun, there are a few oils that should never be applied to the skin and then exposed to sunlight. These are called “photosensitive” or “phototoxic” essential oils. These oils usually contain furocoumarins, which are the culprit. Using a photosensitive oil and then going in the sun can increase the chances of skin cancer. •THE BIRDCAGE• does not use an photosensitive oils in my sunscreens*
